※1)米を拾うとは、ライスシャワーのこと。キリスト教の結婚式で新郎新婦の退場の際に祝福の意味を込めて米を投げる風習がある。エリナー・リグビーは米を食べている…のはあまりに惨めすぎるため、住み込みの掃除婦なのだろうか。

※2)瓶の中に何が入っているのか、歌詞中では言及されていない。今回は化粧の白粉が瓶にためてあるということで訳している。

※3)エリナー･リグビーは名前とともに埋葬されており、独身で死んだことが分かる。
